My name is Matthias Rochow, and I live and work in Berlin, Germany. I have been designing and creating audiovisual content for a living since 2000. I worked in classical television broadcast environments as well as in those of creative agencies. I’ve been offering my services as a freelancer since October 2014.
Having grown up in the `80s, I have seen and celebrated the conquest of VHS, PCs, and video games into people´s living rooms. I started to implement my ideas armed with a boombox and a microphone, and I learned how to use software and hardware without a manual with the Commodore 64. The video output of my AMIGA 1200 allowed me to edit my first graphical elements and animations into my Video-8 movies.
During my time as a technical assistant, I learned all about classic broadcast television, from the live operation of video-control and VTR devices, cameras, and sound mixers to hard-cut editing-systems and Avid NLEs.
The editing suite is where I spent most of my professional career. Whether it’s a newscast or an image film, be it editorial or scenical, after far over a decade as a video editor, there is not much content left that I yet have to edit.
Thanks to editing being a point of intersection during the work on a project, it offered me the opportunity to constantly enhance my skills and knowledge and to apply them professionally in the fields of concepting, directing, graphics, 3D animation, and VFX, as well as voice.
For one thing, having earned a wide set of skills allows me to work very independently. Then it is also very beneficial for the implementation of projects in a team to be aware of the particularities of the other members´ work and to complement it accordingly.
I´m looking forward to further enhancing my creative options for the implementation of new ideas and staying the audiovisual enthusiast I have always been.
Feet on the Ground,
Head in the Sky.
