In 2025 I switched to DaVinci Resolve for all my internal editing, colour grading and mastering purposes. It’s a very powerful software that even comes with a native Linux client.
I learned non-linear editing with AVID MC. It has been the first choice of professional productions for decades, hence the editing software I have gathered the most experience with. It’s three-point-editing workflow is the best that is out there.
Other Editing Software
I have been professionally editing with FCP, as well as Premiere, and I feel confident of producing sensible results with any other editing suite as well, but I would always recommend one of the two candidates above for the best results.
I create my 3D-animations and visual effects with the open-source software Blender.
Being a program that was basically used just by nerds in the past, Blender has become a serious competitor of Maya and Cinema 4D. The main reason for that is not only the price tag (0,-). It´s the great community, which, thanks to the open source code, supports the development of the software and consists of a vast number of open and helpful people.
The graphic editing software GIMP is open-source as well. I´m using it for layouts, textures, and all kinds of graphical elements.
Inkscape, again open-source, I use for the creation of vector graphics, like logo-designs or templates for Blender import.
For musical compositions and sound designs I use the DAW REAPER, accompanied by a variety of virtual instruments and effect-libraries by manufacturers as Native Intruments,
Arturia and Heavyocity.
